Located at 1000 meters (3000+ ft.) above the Pacific Ocean and 45 minutes from its shore, this home offers spectacular views to the East and West. It is also 8 kilometers (5 miles) from the village of Atenas, which has maintained its old Costa Rican flavor. With no neighbor closer than 500 feet and no house visible from closer than 1/2 mile across the valley, the only sounds generated are bird songs and nighttime insects.
From a country road, one descends to the house along a narrow planting of bamboo palm. At the bottom of the drive one passes through a controlled gateway and the view opens up to the home sitting atop its hillock. The forecourt for the house and parking for the cars is screened by an evergreen hedge of fig trees and also forms one side of the courtyard and entrance garden with a running fountain.
The views to the east are over the swimming pool and of the central valley of Costa Rica with spectacular sunrises. At night the same view becomes a valley of sparkling lights. To the north runs the range of green hills called the San Isidro. To the east is a hillside of orange trees and open land. To the west is a coffee plantation and many beautiful sunsets.
