Description
This gorgeous 1887 Queen Anne mansion with many stained-glass windows and chandeliers, has an incredible history related to the start of telephone and electricity. It has recently been lavishly restored and opened as a Bed & Breakfast Inn. Guests have been ecstatic about the accomodations and the friendliness of the Owner and the Manager. Whether you buy this beautiful home as a business or a residence, you will find a happy, peaceful existence in this large home of 5 oversized bedrooms which include a master suite the size of a small apartment.
The front parlor, back parlor with fireplace, grand staircase and dining room are overwhelmingly beautiful and fully wooded in quarter-sawn oak. And architect said he could not even begin to imagine the cost of building
something like this, in this day. The Scottish craftsmanship is awe-inspiring.
The kitchen is a wonderful gourmet kitchen with 3-large antque windows, an Edison light fixture, lots of Cherrywood cabinets and pantry, and dark green marble-look counter top. There is a beautiful sunroom, that looks out over the swimming pool and large, in-ground jacuzzi in the back courtyard. Fantastic settings for weddings and parties. Furnishings accompany the home, and the Owner/Manager will stay, if the opportunity is available to continue running it as a B&B or she will stay as a Nanny/Governess (she loves kids) and Financial/Home Manager. The surrounding community has been thrilled that the home has been opened, for the first time, for the public to tour. Tours are at $10/person. The attic area can be finished to provide an open living space of another 1500 sq. ft.
The mansion is a part of the Naroma Court Historic District, which is on the National Register of historic places. This is the town where Dwight Eisenhower grew up and there is a lot of Old West history here as well as the Eisenhower Research Library. The gentleman who was the Founder of Sprint is very prominent in the history of the town-he is attributed with a whole era of history and was the 'Benevolent Patriarch' of Abilene. There are about 45 historic mansions and homes, on a 1.5 hour walking tour which includes this home. The town is very clean and friendly and it is an idyllic place, in the midst of Kansas, with its heartland values, to raise children. In fact, the schools are small enough that the teachers take an active part in instilling core values and developing good citizens. I cannot say enough. The students each do a community project, their senior year, and the schools have a close alliance with a sister city in Japan. A major venue of income for the town is tourism and it is becoming an artsy town, to increase the number of visitors. It has 8 antique shops, lots of boutiques and salons for massages, hair and sking treatments, massages and pedicures. The town welcomes newcomers who are willing to help build the vision. If this sounds like a fit for you, please call to speak to Marcia Cox, the owner. (877)220-0717 or (785)263-4900
